Zombie Hordes

Zombie horde roaming the wasteland

Zombie Hordes are a core part of Zombie Land's PvE ecosystem. Hordes spawn in the world and actively roam and hunt players. This page also covers Walkers - zombies that can spawn from player deaths.

Zombie Hordes

Hordes are groups of zombies that spawn and move together across the map. They spawn randomly and tend to wander within the local area they spawned in rather than roaming the whole map. They avoid spawning on top of player structures - if a lot of the map gets built over, spawns can start feeling concentrated in the same open areas simply because there's nowhere else left for them to appear.

A few things to know:

  • Hordes can mostly destroy your base. We block damage to the core structural pieces and crafting/storage fixtures (walls, floors, foundations, tool cupboard, furnaces, lockers, workbenches, and similar), but almost everything else - doors, deployables, and more - is fair game. Do not assume your base is safe just because zombies are nearby. See the FAQ for the full breakdown of what is and is not protected.
  • Hordes do chase players. If you engage one, expect the whole group to come at you, not just the one you shot.
  • The Camo skill from the Skills tree (/camo) makes you briefly undetectable to hordes - it only lasts a short time, so think of it as an emergency escape tool rather than a way to safely loot through an active horde.

Hordes drop custom loot on kill, including most items found in the game plus special items like scrolls, infinity stones, and legendary components.

Walkers

When a player dies under certain conditions, a Walker can spawn from their corpse. The longer you've played, the higher your chance of triggering one on death. The strength of the Walker that spawns scales with the level of the player who died - at the low end it's about as weak as a single monument zombie, and at the high end it can be as tough as our old-school hordes used to be, back when hordes hit a lot harder than they do today. The Walker just copies your gear's appearance to look like you - it does not actually carry your items, which remain fully obtainable on your corpse. Walkers drop the same loot as regular hordes.
