Fix Skins

Skins showing the wrong item icons? Do this.

8 steps Your skins stay yours

Reset your Rust skins

  1. Open Rust's folder

    Right-click Rust: Manage›Browse Local Files

Go up two folders, then into:

    steamapps\workshop\content\252490

    Leave it open.

  2. Quit Rust and Steam

    Steam›Exit

Closing the window is not enough.

  3. Empty the 252490 folder

Want a backup? Move it all outside workshop instead.

  4. Delete one file

    appworkshop_252490.acf

One folder up, in workshop. Or move it to your backup.

  5. Clear Steam's download cache

    Start Steam: Settings›Downloads›Clear Download Cache

    Then sign in again.

  6. Verify Rust's files

Right-click Rust: Properties...›Installed Files›Verify integrity of game files

Rust stays closed. Wait until it finishes.

  7. Restart Steam

    Steam›Exit, then open Steam again.

  8. Play

Launch Rust and rejoin the server.

Skins download again. Give it a minute.

Tip: load skins faster

Rust waits a long time for skins by default. Press F1 in Rust and enter:
